Capital Campaign: Building Needs

Learn more about Phase 1 and Phase 2 building needs, below.

Learn about financial needs (redirects to new page).

Phase 1

Roof

Roof: The aging roof is allowing excessive moisture to seep into the building, damaging the interior ceiling of the sanctuary.

We will replace the roof and add new flashing, remove or repair the obsolete and broken flues on the roof, and repair the broken and decaying entrance/bulkhead to the roof.

Sidewalk and Vault

Vault and Sidewalk: The vault (which houses our boiler room and electrical service) will be fully waterproofed, and the deteriorating sidewalk directly above it will be replaced and waterproofed.  The new electrical service within the vault will ensure ongoing, safe, and effective electrical power throughout the building.

Phase 2

Boiler

The Boiler: Our boiler was last replaced in 1992 and is approaching the end of its expected lifespan.  It has rusted and is in desperate need of being replaced to ensure that we can safely and consistently provide heat this Winter.

Gas/Electric Utility: In Spring 2014, a leak was detected in our aging gas lines and our gas service was shut-off by Con Edison. The gas line needs to be repaired or, alternately, we will update our electrical capacity to transform to the ovens and water heater to electrical power in the Ramath Orah kitchen.

Stained Glass

Stained Glass Windows: These beautiful windows, installed in the synagogue in the 1950s are severely damaged from weather and age.  There are large holes and cracks in the main synagogue windows, and the bottom portion of these windows is buckling. This past Winter, we installed plexiglass over the windows, a temporary solution to help maintain warmth in the sanctuary. These windows need to be restored before they collapse upon themselves.

Exterior Doors

Exterior Doors and Awning: The main doors to the synagogue are damaged and in disrepair. We will replace them with new doors that--as well as being more aesthetically pleasing--will add to the safety and security of our synagogue. The awning is worn and needs to be replaced.

Bathrooms

The Bathrooms: The bathrooms are outdated. Though usable, we would like to update them with new fixtures, tile, and paint to freshen their appearance.
