Masekhet Sheqalim takes its name from a unit of value introduced in Sefer Bereishit in the context of the purchase of a burial site.  How was the sheqel originally defined?  Was it a coin?  Was it issued in Judea?  What was the kolbon, and how was it related to the prutah?  

Dr. Eric Krauss, a retired pediatrician with a longstanding interest in numismatics and a volunteer curatorial associate at the American Numismatic Society, will discuss these and related questions during a presentation for members of CRO at the conclusion of study of Masekhet Sheqalim.
