Welcome to Congregation Ramath Orah, a vibrant Modern Orthodox synagogue in Manhattan's Upper West Side. Our historic building, located several blocks from Columbia University, is home to a diverse and inclusive community, spirited prayer, engaging guest speakers, insightful study groups, and lively social gatherings. We are excited to launch The Shama Berman Memorial Lecture Series, which will deal with spiritual and ethical challenges for world Jewry in the 21st Century. The series will begin with an inaugural lecture by Dr. Haym Soloveitchik: “Rupture and Reconstruction”: The Landmark Essay Revisited." About the Shama Berman Memorial Lecture Series: Presented biannually, the Shama Berman Memorial Lecture Series features lectures by distinguished Jewish scholars from around the world concerning the spiritual and ethical challenges facing world Jewry in the 21st Century. The series honors the memory of Shama Berman Z"L, (1975-2020), beloved son, husband, father, brother and friend, who devoted himself wholeheartedly to the welfare of his family, of the State of Israel and of the communities of which he was a part. In his work and as a Hatzalah volunteer, he saved and supported the lives of many people. He enriched the lives of many through his wisdom and insight and sense of humor. -
